Lucien Rizos - artist's bio
Lucien Rizos has been on the fringes and backgrounds of the photography
and art worlds since the mid-1970s. Having studied graphic design
in Wellington, 1972-73, he joined the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra in
1974. He also probably still holds the current record bowling figures
of 7 wickets for 12 runs for the Wellington College 3rd XI.
He has approached photography from a number of directions:
- documentary style
- Romania, 1977-78
- a number of New Zealand books, 1979-84 (artists' books)
- manipulating his own images and found images (1984-86)
- telling stories of his relationship with the art and
photography worlds through rummaging around encyclopaedias,
dictionaries, private photo albums and other peoples' books
- he is currently making movies, documenting whole towns along the
full length of the main street, from a moving bus
Lucien Rizos has exhibited at The Michael Hirschfeld Gallery (City Gallery, Wellington) in May, 2005,
and at Photospace Gallery, Wellington, in July 2007 and
February 2008.
