The BASEMENT is a new space in central Wellington and will be opening in January 2010. It is a multi-room space that has been used for junk storage for decades and has never been open to the public. Recently it has been investigated by Strange Occurrences because of reports of paranormal activity.

We are looking for expressions of interest in an Underground Art Gallery & Market, initially to run Saturdays and Sundays, with flexible events and activities during the week.

The Basement already has Fringe Festival performances booked for February 2010 and we are interested in its further use as a performance venue, also for installation at and performance art events.

If you are an artist, craftsperson, producer of comix, CDs, badges, or whatever that would go well on a stall or an area of wallspace in a basement in central Wellington, near Cuba Mall, please get in touch (email below). Stalls and space will be cheap, priced from $20 for the weekend (run it yourself). We are looking for sellers and makers of interesting, individual handmade items, definitely not imported, manufactured trash.

We will also be holding events such as micro-theatre, monologs, poetry, acoustic or not very loud music, performance art; so maybe this is you, or you know someone who might be interested.

The venue could also be used as a location for film or photo shoots, student exhibitions or whatever. Facilities are minimal or non-existent, but hey, it's cheap. We're open to your ideas.
