Mary Macpherson is a Wellington-based photographer with a career of more than 30 years exhibiting and publishing photographs.

Her exhibitions span dealer and public galleries throughout New Zealand and her work is held in corporate and public collections including Te Papa Tongarewa, the Sarjeant Art Gallery and the Dunedin Public Art Gallery, among others.

Her work emphasises projects that explore social and philosophic ideas. Series such as 17 Days of Shopping and Plant Life have been published in Sport and Landfall magazines, respectively.

Her latest work is Old New World, a book (pub. Lopdell House Gallery, 2012) and touring exhibition about change in New Zealand society, seen in small towns throughout the country.

The colour photographs feature buildings, houses, statues and murals to tell the story of a shift from the remains of the traditional New Zealand of the 1950s and 60s to places of boom and prosperity that look very different to our remembered past.

A focus on iconography about New Zealand's identity and multiple narratives about the possible future of small towns are also part of the work.

Prints from the 62 image Old New World series are available from Photospace Gallery, as well as signed copies of the book.

The work is printed on 308gsm Hahnemuhle photorag rag paper using Epsom K3 Ultrachrome inks. Prints are available in limited editions of A2 and A3 sizes.
