Exhibiting at Photospace

Photospace operates as a dealer gallery, not as an exhibition venue for hire. Exhibitions are curated by the owner of the gallery.

Artists need to be New Zealand based, NZers working overseas, or overseas
artists whose projects relate to NZ. In other words, the exhibition content
or the artist must relate to New Zealand in some way.

Generally, photos that fall within the genres of Travel and Scenic Landscape
are not accepted for exhibition at Photospace, unless they are extraordinary,
or explore some specific theme at a deep level.

And please, no photos printed on canvas. Try selling on Trade Me instead :-)

When proposing an exhibition:

• email me screen resolution JPEGs, or send a CD (email link below)

• JPEG files in folders are preferred. Please don't use slide shows, Powerpoint etc, Apple iPhoto format, or very high resolution files. PDFs are OK but watch the file size and layout - large files will be viewed but probably not retained

• include an artist's statement outlining theme and intent of the work, and the method and style of presentation

• include artist information with relevant background

• if sending slides or prints, include return courier sticker & packaging or arrange to collect

• the gallery will treat received material with due care but accepts no responsibility for loss or damage. Don't send me your only copy of a CD or your original slides, for instance

• if visiting the gallery with your work, please make an appointment. Just showing up cold is unprofessional and may be a waste of your time

Photospace gallery has a fairly full schedule of exhibitions most of the time, but we are always interested in looking at new work. Also, exhibition slots may open up unexpectedly for a variety of reasons, so it is always useful for us to know of potential exhibitions that are available. And even if we are unable to exhibit the work, you may get some useful feedback.

Photospace Gallery is operating on a flexible room system, sometimes using the two smaller rooms (below) and sometimes the larger gallery room, shared with Gilberd Marriott Gallery.

Layout of 3 gallery rooms at 37 Courtenay Place (excluding stockroom)

Gallery Room 1 - main gallery.
Used for Photospace Gallery exhibitions and Gilberd Marriott Gallery exhibitions when the size of the exhibition demands it.

Gallery Room 2 - includes office desk and espresso machine.
Used for smaller Photospace exhibitions and, occasionally, GMG exhibitions.

Gallery Room 3 - Gilberd Marriott Gallery.
Also used sometimes for Photospace exhibitions.
