ocsilloscope and video monitors © Strange Occurrences 2009

The video monitors (right) are connected to remote cameras via radio links or cable, and the camera feed is also recorded to VHS. This is an analogue setup, whereas the camcorders we walk around with are digital. It is generally good practice to record using both analog and digital equipment simultaneously and compare later, and the same applies with still cameras; we use both digital and film.

The oscilloscope (left) can be connected to a microphone and used to measure amplitude and frequency of sound. A tone generator can be connected to the second channel and the two separate waveforms (generated and recorded) can be compared on the screen. Likewise, a coil can be used to pick up EMF, and amplitude and frequency can be measured (whereas a trifield meter-although more portable-measures only amplitude, not frequency).

We have two oscilloscopes, for some reason, which we usually don't bother to take to a location. They are more for analysis afterwards, but we will take one out if the circumstances call for it.
