THE STRANGE OCCURRENCES PARANORMAL INVESTIGATION TEAM
Est. 2005
L-R: Patrick Brown, Karen Lee, Helen Jones, Jo Davy,
Mark Marriott, Alia Miller, Denise Durkin, James Gilberd
We all have lifelong interest in the paranormal, in history and older buildings. None of us claims to be psychic or
has the skills of a medium,
but - like many people -
we have each had our own experiences of things that are difficult to attribute to normal or natural causes.
We understand and respect scientific
method and take the position that nothing
in the world is absolutely proven; we can only work with the best available theory until a better one presents itself.
We are a naturally
curious, enquiring and critical thinking bunch, rather than being belief-oriented.
While starting from a neutral or somewhat sceptical position, we're open minded to phenomena that lie beyond
or outside current scientific understanding.
"But at the last, what do we know?" - Arthur Machen.
Expanding the Team
While we're not (at this stage) looking to spread beyond Wellington, and we already have enough investigators locally,
we may be interested
in having on board:
- a videographer - ideally someone who is keen on documenting the investigations rather than
acting as an investigator.
- We would also like to hear from someone with a strong background in psychology and who
has an enquiring mind concerning things paranormal (if such a person exists).
There's already a range
of science and arts degrees in the team makeup, including a Ph.D. We are a friendly, easy going bunch in the age range of late 20s to late 40s (OK, early 50s). A sense of humour is essential.
"Who am I?
As a bird I fly about
Seeing things, partaking of things.
Let my heart be delighted with them."
- Aztec poem.
Strange Occurrences and Phoen-X PRI teams combined to
investigate Wellington's Inverlochy House on 13/12/2008.
Back: Jen, Buzz, Angelo, Alia, Clinton.
Front: Mark, Denise, James.
2009 team: Mark Marriott, Karen Lee, Denise Durkin
James Gilberd, Alia Miller, Jo Davy, Helen Jones.
The photo above was taken during our first investigation of the Wellington Museum of City & Sea.
We all moved away after about 6 seconds of the 10-second exposure.
The original incarnation of Strange Occurrences:
"Campbell, Collington, Stark & Gray - Paranormal Investigators",
established 2005. (L-R): Denise Stark, Karen Gray, Mark Collington, J.Duncan Campbell.
Once we began to get enquiries for our services we dropped the pseudonyms.
